Aims and Objectives
Cittaslow is an international network of over 100 towns across the world that have adopted the same set of principles and objectives to enhance their quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Cittaslow focuses on promoting and enhancing the elements that make each member town unique, such as local traditions, local producers and products, community activities and high quality natural and built environments.
Linlithgow aspires to be a Cittaslow town for the following reasons -
- To attract additional visitors to the town by using Cittaslow status to differentiate Linlithgow from other competitive destinations.
- To ensure that the retail centre of Linlithgow remains vibrant and competitive.
- To enhance the physical and natural environment of the town making it more attractive for locals and visitors alike.
- To conserve and enhance the unique historic character of Linlithgow.
- To support active local groups and initiatives and encourage them to work closely together.
- To support quality local businesses including food producers, craft workers, restaurants and retailers.
- To attract additional external support to help fund projects and initiatives that will enhance quality of life in the town.
Being a Cittaslow town will not, in itself, achieve these aims and objectives. However, we believe that Cittaslow status will act as a catalyst for new initiatives and joint working that will help Linlithgow move forward positively and successfully. We believe that Cittaslow status will give Linlithgow promotional and development advantages that will help it to remain a prosperous town of genuine character in the 21st century. Put simply, Cittaslow will help to make Linlithgow a better place to live, work and visit.
Cittaslow is a developing network that is growing in size, recognition and influence. There are now 6 Cittaslow towns in the UK, all of which have undergone a rigorous accreditation process before being admitted into membership.
We believe that joining the Cittaslow network will bring many advantages to Linlithgow. We ask for your support.
